Welcome to the Schadenfreude showcase. This case study details our card designs, color schemes, and custom illustration assets crafted for Schadenfreude, the mischievous trick-taking card game.
Mischievous Characters
Depicting playful tricksters, laughing ghosts, and visual motifs of light-hearted misfortune.
Trick Cards
Distinct card layouts featuring clear numbers, neon accents, and bold graphical borders.
The Trick-Taking Arena
Players participate in successive rounds of tricks. In each trick, players must follow suit if possible, trying to manage who wins the trick to set up strategic point distributions.
The Fine Line of Scoring
Unlike standard card games, crossing the target scoring threshold instantly eliminates you from victory. The ultimate winner is the player who finishes with the second-highest score below the line.
Playing the Saboteur
Feed points to your opponents to force them past the threshold! Hand management and reading other players' reactions is key to manipulating the victory outcomes.
Misery Index is a sub-board system tracking players' individual scores. Wooden markers slide across the colorful score track, highlighting target warning zones and sudden-death lines to keep tensions high.
Score Manipulation
Distribute point cards to opponents during high-stake tricks, forcing them into warning zones while keeping your own position safely in second place.
Deliverables
We delivered a complete custom tuckbox layout, card back illustrations, character avatars, scoring tracks, and manual layout files.

Shipping
Ships in flat mailers from our fulfillment facilities in Canada and Asia, keeping shipping fees extremely low and securing fast region-wide transit.
Risks
Linen cards require consistent temperature control during printing to prevent warping. We work only with seasoned card game factories.
Environmental commitments
All card decks are plastic-free, printed on paperboard cardstocks, and shipped in recyclable paperboard packaging.
